SAND BAR RESTAURANT Cockburn Town, Grand Turk

Sand Bar is a casual beachfront Cockburn Town restaurant – no shoes or shirt required here and serves seafood and classic lunch dishes. Open for lunch & dinner, Sand Bar has a covered wooden deck that juts out over the water on a small and calm beach, and is a wonderful location to watch the sunset. The menu includes freshly caught fish, lobster, and conch, as well as typical North American regulars – burgers, quesadillas, and chicken and ribs ‘island-style’ with peas and rice. If you’re visiting for a day, be sure to arrive before 2:30pm, as Sand Bar stops service for a couple of hours mid- afternoon to get ready for the evening crowd. Sand Bar is rightly the most popular spot in town for an evening rum punch, and drop in for some late-evening conversation if you’re staying the night. The quiz night every third Tuesday is legendary, as is the whale-watching when humpbacks pass close to shore in February and March. Telephone enquiries: +1 (649) 946-1111

TURKS HEAD INNE Duke Street, Grand Turk

Built nearly two centuries ago, this restaurant is filled with classic old-world charm; the rich wood characteristics have been maintained as well as much of the architectural detailing, some of it borrowed from decommissioned ships. Meals are served on a raised terrace on a covered patio or overlooking the ocean – the service is friendly and competent, although not quite as laid-back as you might experience at other venues in Grand Turk. The chef uses his expertise in Asian cuisine to create a wonderful fusion of island delicacies, incorporating lots of fresh vegetables and seafood. Excellently prepared desserts or a platter of fruits are on offer, making this one of the more elegant evenings out in Grand Turk. Telephone enquiries: +1 (649) 946-1830
